The business community in the Sister Islands will have a chance to learn first-hand about the new Trade and Business Licensing Law, its benefits, and its requirements from Department of Commerce and Investment (DCI) staff at the 2015 Cayman Brac Business Expo.

Put on by Hurley's Media, the expo will be held from 9am to 4pm on Saturday, 12 December at the Aston Rutty Civic Centre.

DCI Director Ryan Rajkumarsingh said DCI's presence at the expo represents the department's commitment to ensuring business owners throughout the Cayman Islands have an opportunity to learn more about the new law.

'In late October, we set up information booths at the Brac supermarkets before staging a public meeting at the civic centre and the feedback we received was positive,' he said. 'We have always recognised the importance of commerce in the Sister Islands, and that's why we have a DCI office in the Brac.

'With the law expected to commence soon, it's important for us to reach out to all residents so that they can be prepared for the new law'.

Among other features, the law improves the governance structure and processes of the Trade and Business Licensing Board, reduces TBL approval times, improves DCI's enforcement powers, and clarifies business licensing categories.
