Important notification: New guidelines have been issued by the Chief Inspector of Mines of the Department of Mineral Resources for the compilation of mandatory codes of practice, which are binding in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act, 29 of 1996.

Kindly take note that on Friday, 25 September 2015, notices were published in Government Gazette No. 39228, in terms of which the Chief Inspector of Mines of the Department of Mineral Resources promulgated the following new guidelines for the compilation of the mandatory codes of practice set out therein (click here to view GoN 854, GoN 855, GoN 856 and GeN 919 of 2015):

  1. Guideline for the compilation of a Mandatory Code of Practice on theProvision of Personal Protective Equipment for Women in the South African Mining Industry. An effective date of31 December 2015has been recorded on the aforementioned guideline.
  2. Guideline for the compilation of a Mandatory Code of Practice forTrackless Mobile Machinery. An effective date of31 August 2015has been recorded on the aforementioned guideline.
  3. Guideline for the compilation of a Mandatory Code of Practice forCyanide Management. An effective date of30 November 2015has been recorded on the aforementioned guideline.
  4. Guideline for the compilation of a Mandatory Code of Practice forUnderground Rail-bound Equipment. An effective date of31 August 2015has been recorded on the aforementioned guideline.
