New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has appointed Jacques Jiha to be the next Commissioner of the Department of Finance, the agency that administers most New York City taxes. Mr. Jiha, who holds a Ph.D. in Economics, has more than 25 years' experience in public finance. He previously held senior positions with the New York City and New York State Comptroller's offices. In 1992 and 1993, he served as Executive Director of the New York State Legislative Tax Study Commission, and before that was Principal Economist for the New York State Assembly Ways & Means Committee. For the past nine years, he has been a Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer in the private sector.

Mr. Jiha will replace Beth Goldman, who was appointed Finance Commissioner in September 2013, after having served as the agency's General Counsel.
