As of 1 October 2012, IP Australia has increased a number of the official fees associated with trade mark applications and registrations.

The current fees are as follows:

Item Fees as of 1 October 2012
Standard Electronic Application – no pick List $200.00 per class
Standard Electronic Application – with pick list $120.00 per class
Headstart Trade Mark Application (Part 1 Fee) $120.00 per class
Headstart Trade Mark Application (Part 2 Fee) $80.00 per class
Trade Mark Registration Fee $300.00 per class
Trade Mark renewal fees for renewal via e-Services $300.00 per class
Trade Mark renewal fees for renewal via any other means $350.00 per class

The IP Australia 'pick list' referred to in the above table is a list of approved standard goods and services commonly categorised under the various classes of goods and services. It is useful if you wish to claim a generic description of goods and services for a particular trade mark.

There are various cost benefits associated with the 'pick list'. However, the suitability of a 'pick list' description will depend on the nature of the trade mark and the level of protection sought.

Trade mark registration is a straightforward and cost-effective means of protecting your company's biggest assets. Coleman Greig Lawyers can assist if you would like to apply for registration of your trade mark, and we can also advise you on whether or not it is suitable to use IP Australia's 'pick list' for your trade mark application.
