Following up on our earlier posts here and here, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has temporarily adopted regulations implementing the use of mobile gaming devices at Atlantic City casinos. These regulations will be temporarily adopted effective October 8, 2012, and, accordingly, casinos can go live with mobile gaming at that point.
The regulations clarify that gaming may occur anywhere within the property boundaries of the casino property, exclusing parking garages or parking areas. The device must lock out the ability for any mobile gaming to occur if the device is removed from permitted gaming areas.
Mobile gaming devices can only be used by patrons who establish mobile gaming accounts. Before an account may be opened, a patron must establish age, identification, and the fact that the patron is not on any exclusion list.
The default maximum daily limit that a patron may fund a mobile gaming account with is $500, but, the patron may adjust that to impose a maximum of $2,500. There is a 24-hour waiting period before a request to increase the daily limit is implemented.
Interestingly, the mobile gaming regulations allow a casino licensee to obtain Division approval to simulcast authorized table games. To simulcast a table game, a casino must use a simulcast control server that provides users of mobile gaming devices real time visual access to the live table game. The table personnel would record the live results in the server, which would then pay wagers made by mobile device users. This could be an interesting enhancement at games like roulette and craps.
In addition to live table game simulcasts, other approved games on a game server may be used on mobile devices.
