At a press conference today in Atlantic City, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie stated that New Jersey intends to press forward on legalized sports wagering, with the state intending to issue regulations. The Governor stated that he hoped to have sports wagering in place in New Jersey before the end of 2012.

The Governor stated that he expects that legal action may be taken against New Jersey for moving forward (as a result of federal law), but that he was confident that the state would be successful in its efforts to implement sports wagering. If sports wagering goes forward, Atlantic City casinos as well as New Jersey racetracks would be permitted to offer sports betting, except on college sporting events played in New Jersey or in which a New Jersey team is playing.
