A series of public meetings will be held to support the submissions process on the development of a new policy to deal with earthquake-prone buildings.
Proposals are that all non-residential and all multi-unit, multi-storey residential buildings have a seismic capacity assessment within five years, with a ten year deadline for owners to either strengthen or demolish those which are found to be sub-standard.
Consultation closes at 5pm Friday, 8 March 2013.
Building and Construction Minister Maurice Williamson says public submissions will be crucial and that he plans to attend several of the public meetings.
The consultation document and an on-line response form can be found here.
