"Global Entry" is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows quick clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Members enter the United States through automatic Counter at selected airports. At airports, program members proceed to a Global Entry kiosk, present their machine-readable passport or U.S. permanent resident card, place their fingerprints on the scanner for fingerprint verification and complete a customs declaration. The kiosk issues the traveler a transaction receipt and directs the traveler to baggage claim and the exit and on rare occasions still requires the traveler to meet an immigration officer. There are Global Entry kiosks situated at several of United States' busy airports and at a few airports outside the U.S. like, Abu Dhabi, Toronto, Dublin, Halifax, Nassau, Ottawa, Montreal etc. Travelers boarding certain flights from these international locations can complete Global Entry checks prior to boarding the flight, which further simplifies the process on landing in the U.S.
Preapproved, low-risk Indian travelers to the U.S. may soon be able to avail of this benefit as India is likely to join the U.S. Global Entry Program ahead of the Indo-U.S. Homeland Security conversation in July 2016. This will facilitate travel for frequent business travelers, celebrities like movie stars and certain government officials both active and retired.
