The Proskauer family is deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend and partner, Jeffrey Levitan. Jeff leaves behind a void that will be hard to fill. He will be greatly missed.
Jeff was a pillar of our community for an impressive 36 years, having embarked on his journey with Proskauer in 1987. His unwavering dedication and outstanding contributions led to his well-deserved promotion to partner in 1991. Throughout his distinguished tenure, Jeff shared his knowledge and wisdom, serving as a mentor to countless partners and attorneys within our firm.
Jeff earned his B.A. from the State University of New York in Albany in 1979. He furthered his education, receiving his J.D. from New York Law School in 1983, and later on clerked for the Hon. Edward J. Ryan U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of New York—setting the stage for a remarkable legal career.
Jeff was more than just a colleague; he was a mentor, a partner, and a friend. He possessed the remarkable ability to provide candid advice when needed, never shying away from constructive feedback. At the same time, he had a soft and compassionate side that endeared him to all who knew him.
Jeff's possessed a unique sense of humor, often lightening the mood with his witty remarks. He frequently claimed not to be the smartest person in the room, even when he was. He coupled that with street smarts and wisdom that resonated with everyone he encountered.
Jeff was always there when we needed him and never refused to help. He leaves behind a legacy of intelligence, humility, and, most importantly, the admiration and respect of associates, peers, and friends alike. Jeff's memory will be cherished in our hearts, and his impact on our community will be felt for years to come.
In this trying moment, we extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to his beloved wife, Marcy, and his son, Zachary. Their loss is immeasurable, and our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
