Pittsburgh, PA, November 21, 2022 – Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP's Robert J. Williams has been appointed General Counsel of the Aviation Insurance Association by the Association's Board of Directors, effective November 16, 2022. In that role, he will be providing legal advice and counsel to the AIA Board. In addition, Mr. Williams will continue to serve as co-chair of Schnader's Aviation Group and will continue with his law practice, which includes representing global, national, and regional companies in complex, high-stakes cases in federal and state courts, private and court-annexed arbitrations, and administrative agencies.

Mr. Williams, who was an AIA Board member and Director of the Attorneys' Division from 2018-2020, remarked, "The AIA Board of Directors includes many of the brightest aviation insurance professionals with whom I have ever had the privilege of working. I am honored they asked me to serve them and the Association in this capacity and excited to begin this new role." The Aviation Insurance Association (AIA) is a not-for-profit association dedicated to expanding the knowledge of and promoting the general welfare of the aviation insurance industry through numerous educational programs and events. Its members include agents/brokers, claims professionals, underwriters, attorneys, and college students interested in the business.

Mr. Williams himself is an aircraft owner and active private pilot. He applies his practical experience and legal knowledge to the representation of virtually every type of aviation industry participant, including aircraft and component manufacturers, airports, air carriers and other commercial operators, repair stations, fixed base operators, pilots, flight instructors, mechanics, and insurers.

Mr. Williams also serves his community and the country as the Commanding Officer of Golden Triangle Composite Squadron 603 of the Civil Air Patrol, U.S. Air Force Auxiliary. His duties include Transport Mission Pilot and Orientation Flight Pilot. The Civil Air Patrol is the statutory auxiliary to the U.S. Air Force that serves in a non-combatant capacity by conducting 90% of the country's inland search and rescue missions, and disaster relief. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Civil Air Patrol conducted food distribution missions and delivered vaccines to remote areas of the country.
