This timely webinar discussion will be led by Tom McInerney, Partner and Co-Head of Bennett Jones' Power and Renewable Energy Industry Team

Tom will be joined by Katie Sullivan, Managing Director at IETA, and Njoroge Ngure, Manager at Environmental and Renewables Trading, Heartland Generation Ltd. to address industry migration towards net-zero and will discuss the evolving issues of GHG legislation and emissions trading in Canada.

Speakers will also share highlights on latest voluntary market demand, standards and convergences and 'what-to-watch' with regards to priority compliance markets and jurisdictions.

SPEAKERS
Thomas McInerney

Thomas McInerney acts for energy companies on a broad range of commercial transactions, both in Canada and internationally. He is also is the co-head of the firm's power and renewable energy practice group.

Tom assists with asset and share purchase and sale transactions, corporate/commercial reorganizations and restructurings, new project development, structuring joint ventures and partnerships, marketing arrangements and licensing, and the use of proprietary technology. He also has considerable experience with large engineering procurement and construction projects particularly within the oil sands, pipeline and power generation and transmission industries. Tom’s practice has a particular emphasis on renewable power projects including solar, wind and co-gen biomass facilities, and has experience representing power project
developers and owners, as well as large-scale corporate offtakers of renewable power. 

Katie Sullivan

Katie serves as Managing Director of IETA, the global multi-sector business voice for the intersection of markets and climate change. On behalf of IETA’s 150+ corporate members, Katie leads efforts to inform market solutions to address environmental challenges across the Americas and globally. Katie sits on the Global Steering Committee for the World Bank’s Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition (CPLC), Boards of the Climate Action Reserve (CAR) and the International Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) Knowledge Centre, and numerous Advisory Panels including for Canada’s Institute for Clean Growth & Climate Change and the Ivey Foundation. In 2019, Katie was recognized as a Clean16 and Clean50 award recipient for contributing to Clean Capitalism Leadership in Canada.

Njoroge Ngure

Njoroge started his career doing research on elephants in Africa and has spent the last 16 years working in electricity and environmental markets in North America. His experience spans origination, trading, environmental policy, renewables, and environmental products, as well as energy and environmental markets analytics. Currently, he is responsible for commercial strategy as it relates to environmental markets and energy transition. Njoroge has a dual academic background in Economics and Conservation Biology.  He has a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Science in Conservation Biology from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He also has a Master of Science in Applied Economics and a PhD (all but thesis) in Applied Economics and Finance from Cornell University.
