The COVID-19 pandemic has no doubt sent a shock throughout the global energy sector. Government imposed measures to curtail the spread of the virus such as travel restrictions, lockdowns and social distancing have all led to a slash in global oil and gas demands and dramatically affected other forms of energy.
Given the current challenges caused by COVID-19 in the energy industry, complex contractual disputes are inevitably bound to arise between parties as they are faced with sharing costs and losses occasioned by the pandemic and termination of contracts on the basis of force majeure or frustration.
The goal of the webinar therefore is to discuss the various areas where energy disputes may arise such as contractual disputes, insolvency and liquidity issues, investor-state disputes, energy storage and address the resolution of the attendant disputes which is mainly by arbitration. The webinar will also address the evolvement of the arbitration process in the light of the pandemic and how parties can adapt to emerging trends.
