Brandon Van Grack spoke to the National Law Journal about the U.S. Department of Justice pushing for the release of the warrant linked to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's raid of former President Trump's Mar-a-Lago home.

According to Brandon, it is "very unusual" for the department to make a search warrant public in an investigation involving national security, especially so soon after the search was conducted.

But he added that most people who are subject to a search warrant are determined to keep it private, making it a violation of department policy for the government to publicize the details about a search of their home. In this case, Trump and his attorneys spoke openly about the search, leading to enormous pressure on the department.

"It was necessary," Brandon said of Thursday's motion and press conference announcing it. "This isn't just anyone and there's appropriate sensitivity and scrutiny that comes with a search warrant of a former president's residence."
