SEC Chair Jay Clayton defended the SEC's FY 2020 Budget Request of $1.746 billion before the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations, Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government.

Mr. Clayton stated that the FY 2020 Budget Request would enable the agency to execute its statutory mission, as well as agency priorities outlined in the 2018-2022 SEC Strategic Plan. The SEC's priorities include: (i) addressing the interests of long-term "Main Street" investors, (ii) responding to technological and commercial developments that impact the market environment, (iii) strengthening cybersecurity and (iv) investing in human capital.
