As described below [jump link], the California AG has released
updated regulations for the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA),
which the AG has indicated it will begin to enforce by July
2020. But a coalition of business community members is urging
AG to delay enforcement of the CCPA because the ongoing coronavirus
pandemic is complicating companies’ efforts to bring
themselves into compliance with the law. The coalition –
which includes the California Chamber of Commerce, UPS, the
Internet Coalition, the Association of National Advertisers and 30
others – is urging the AG to move its enforcement
commencement to January 2, 2021. The coalition argues that the
temporary delay on enforcement would give companies more time to
implement the regulations included in the statute while responding
to the challenges posed by the global pandemic, including
simultaneously instituting mandatory work-from-home measures for
their employees and creating and testing processes to ensure
compliance with the CCPA.
