The firm’s original four partners were engaged primarily in a burgeoning real estate practice. While our real estate practice and deep-rooted involvement in that industry remains an integral component of the firm, we have grown alongside the dynamic needs of our clients and community at large. Today, the firm’s lawyers advise clients on almost every aspect of business: from copyrights and trademarks to high-stakes, high-profile litigation; from complex commercial and residential real estate issues to wealth management; from labor and employment law to healthcare; from capital raising and entity formation to corporate growth and expansion locally, nationally and internationally.

Property Appraisers in Florida send out Truth In Millage (TRIM) notices to all property owners this month (August).  These TRIM notices show the property tax assessments for 2014, as well as estimated taxes for this year.  Property owners have just 25 days from the mailing of the TRIM notice to review the valuation and challenge the assessment on the property.

We advise all our clients who own property in Florida to carefully review their TRIM notices as soon as they are received.  County Property Appraisers continue to make a concerted push to increase each County's tax base and it is imperative that all property owners stay aware of potential increases in your property taxes this year.  This year in particular will likely see an increase in both assessments and property taxes, as County Property Appraisers are of the opinion that valuations should be back to pre-recession levels.

Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed, P.A. has an experienced property tax group that can help with all your property tax questions, from initial review of the assessment value on the TRIM notice through official challenges at the Value Adjustment Board (VAB), as well as filing a civil suit challenging an adverse decision by the VAB.  Please contact Jim Spoonhour or Brendan Lynch for more information.
