Social-distancing rules are still the order of the day in most US cities, and sticking to daily routines is tough when we're all stuck inside. This can be especially true for exercise (where's the motivation to break a sweat when a comfy couch is always close by?).
While we may still be physically apart, Mayer Brown has stayed united in its commitment to health and fitness. To help our people remain active and connected, our US offices launched a friendly competitive series dubbed the Virtual 5K Challenge. During the first two weeks of competition, participants selected an activity (running, walking, stair-climbing, strolling, wheelchair-rolling, etc.) and logged 3.1 miles over the course of each week. In week one, titled Fitness Unleashed, participants completed their 5Ks with a four-legged companion. In week two, Team Spirit, challengers were asked to "compete" wearing a favorite team's logo and colors.
More than 100 lawyers and business services staff have taken part, some of them setting up WhatsApp groups to share "selfies" and offer encouragement and moral support. Each participant has received a personalized certificate of completion. Those who crossed the finish line in both weeks have been entered into an office raffle for a grand prize.
