Mary Agyapong, aged 28, died at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, where she also worked, on April 12, 2020.

Her baby had been safely delivered by caesarean section a few days earlier, after Mary had been re-admitted to hospital suffering covid symptoms.

Mary's husband, Ernest Boateng, is represented by Leigh Day head of clinical negligence Suzanne White.

Suzanne represented Ernest at the pre-inquest review held before coroner, Emma Whitting at Central Bedfordshire Coroner's Court in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, on Wednesday, 30 September, 2020.

The preliminary cause of death was given as pneumonia and Covid-19.

The coroner told Suzanne's team, the hospital trust, and the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch that witnesses including senior members of the discharge team and the mother of two's line manager or equivalent were likely to be required to give evidence.

Following the hearing, Suzanne White said:

"Ernest has lost his partner, and two small children have lost their mother.

"The inquest will look into the cause of Mary's death  in such tragic circumstances"
