Sigh of Relief: Data Controllers Registry (VERBIS) Deadline Pushed Back for a Second Time

A seminal part of the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 has been heralded as the duty of data controllers to register to the Data Controllers Registry ("VERBIS"). The last day of December 2019 had been the originally announced date where data controllers who either employ over 50 persons or have an annual fiscal balance sheet exceeding 25 million Turkish Lira were obliged to register to the VERBIS system. This date now sees an extension, for a second time, to 30.06.2020.

The Personal Data Protection Board has set forth the following deadlines:

Postponed Deadlines

Data controllers employing over 50 persons or have an annual fiscal balance sheet exceeding 25 million Turkish Lira
