Giambrone & Partners LLP has been instructed in a cross-border matter relating to the fatal fire in a temporary hospital in Tetovo constructed to care for victims of Covid.  A Macedonian family who is resident in Italy lost two family members and a third was severely injured.

Gabriele Giambrone, managing partner, is leading the team for this case commented, when being interviewed by media outlet Nistori (click to see interview)  "whilst my client is seeking compensation for the loss of his father and one brother and the shocking injuries sustained by a third brother; his principal motive is to seek the truth and to obtain justice for his father, brothers and his traumatised family" Gabriele further stated, "my client is skeptical about the politicians in North Macedonia and feels that there will be a cover-up that will deny his family the justice they deserve."

The accident occurred in a make-shift hospital which was engulfed in an intense fire exacerbated by the presence of a number of oxygen bottles.

Gabriele Giambrone has issued an application at court for mediation, issued against the Prime Minister, Zoran Zaev, the Health Ministery and the Ministry of Justice all of whom refused to respond.  Gabriele pointed out that Macedonia has aspirations to join the European Market and feels that the country will have to review its attitude and start to treat its citizens in a similar way to the EU if it has any hopes of succeeding in its application, further stating that an offer of compensation in the sum of €30,000.00 for the loss of two lives and the life-long injury of another is derisory.

Gabriele Giambrone pointed out "my clients are residents of Italy and have the right to have their case heard in the jurisdiction of their domicile, they believe that they will have a better opportunity for a truly an independent hearing before an Italian court, as opposed to a hearing in Macedonia that will simply result in an attempt to pay them off with a small amount of money and make them go away" Gabriele stated, "we are issuing a claim before the Italian court for compensation in recognition of post-traumatic stress damages suffered by the surviving family members, the severe life-long injuries to one brother, as well as the tragic loss and of the father and a brother,  in the sum of one million euros."
