Jennifer Everett, a partner in Jones Day's Cybersecurity, Privacy & Data Protection Practice, has been named to the 2021 edition of the Washington Business Journal's "40 Under 40" list. The list honors 40 business leaders with a proven track record of success in their industry.

Ms. Everett's practice focuses on advising companies as they develop and maintain sustainable privacy and cybersecurity governance programs, and design and build effective cross-border privacy and cybersecurity programs consistent with state, federal, and international cybersecurity laws. Notably, Ms. Everett advised a company during one of the largest data breaches of 2019, which spanned more than 30 countries. She advised on mitigating the breach and navigating the numerous, sprawling federal and state regulatory investigations that followed.

With a strong cross-border component to her practice, Ms. Everett frequently speaks and writes on trends and changes in global privacy and cybersecurity laws. In the past year, she has written multiple client alerts and other publications advising clients on key data privacy and protection issues, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), data scraping, and managing cybersecurity and data privacy risks during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ms. Everett is also on the Firm's COVID-19 Task Force, advising clients on critical data privacy and cybersecurity issues.

A champion for diversity, Ms. Everett leads a wide range of initiatives at Jones Day to recruit, retain, and promote women attorneys and attorneys of color. A founder and co-leader of the Washington Office Women's Group, Ms. Everett has spearheaded professional development efforts, mentoring relationships, and diversity networking events among women lawyers. She is also a member of the Firm's Diversity and Recruiting Committees and co-chairs the Washington Office's Diversity Committee.

Ms. Everett has a robust pro bono practice. For more than ten years, she has co-led the Washington Office's pro bono initiative with the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless (WLCH), advising clients on issues ranging from claims for Social Security Disability Insurance to housing disputes, and training new lawyers advocating for and advising clients from the clinic. She currently sits on the organization's Board of Directors. Ms. Everett also regularly advises organizations developing platforms and technology to identify and mitigate human trafficking by using aggregated geolocation data and adtech data.
