The firm and the team

GTO is a full-service corporate law firm boasting a high-quality team of Turkish lawyers with substantial experience advising international and Turkish clients on a wide range of practice areas, including banking & finance, capital markets, competition/anti-trust, corporate/M&A, energy, infrastructure, private equity and real estate.

The firm was founded in 2011 by a core team with extensive experience in leading global law firms. GTO has an exceptional client base consisting of some of the largest conglomerates and sector leaders in Turkey, major multinationals, investment and private equity funds, and financial institutions.

GTO is headed by its founding partners Baran Gen, Ebru Temizer and Emre Özer, and currently has a team of 15 lawyers.

Baran Gen has over 18 years of experience handling the full range of corporate/M&A, capital markets, banking and project finance transactions. She has represented clients from a wide range of industries, in particular in the banking, oil & gas, media, technology, retail, real estate, and energy sectors.

Baran has acted on various private equity transactions for both domestic and international investors ranging from small and mid-cap to big-ticket transactions, including leveraged buy-outs and leveraged recaps.

Baran is listed as a leading corporate lawyer by the main international directories. In the recent edition of Chambers & Partners she is singled out by clients for her "business acumen" and for displaying a "great deal of creativity in her problem-solving". She is also noted for her "proficiency in negotiations". In Legal 500 clients comment that she is "dedicated", "knowledgeable" and "provides top-tier quality advice", and further describe her as a "warrior who fights for her clients to the end".

Baran is a graduate of Galatasaray University (2001) and of Université Paris 1 Panthéon – Sorbonne (LL.M., 2002). She speaks Turkish, English and French.

Ebru Temizer has over 20 years of experience in corporate/commercial law, dispute resolution, life sciences, energy and projects. She has particular experience in dispute resolution, including in administrative law matters and major commercial contract disputes.

Ebru's experience includes representing foreign investors in the privatisation process of Turkish state assets including in the energy and telecommunication sectors. She has also advised on various significant information technology, real estate and leisure sector investment projects.

Ebru has recently been referred to as "one to be mentioned" in the legal directory IFLR1000. She is also named as one of the leading corporate lawyers in Turkey by Best Lawyers, the prestigious US publication, while Legal 500 describes her as "one of the best" and a "perfectionist".

Ebru is a graduate of Ankara University (LL.B., 1998) and of Georgetown University (LL.M., 2009). She speaks Turkish and English.

Emre Özer is an English-law qualified lawyer and worked for almost a decade at a leading law firm in London. He has a broad corporate and corporate finance practice with a particular focus on public and private acquisitions, joint ventures, financing and capital markets transactions. He has represented clients in a variety of different sectors, both regulated and unregulated, including on many of the recent, highest profile transactions in Turkey.

Emre is singled out as a leading corporate lawyer by international legal directories. In its recent edition, Chambers & Partners notes his "calm, unflustered style with the ability to handle complex and difficult transactions". In the most recent Legal 500 edition, clients describe him as being "highly skilled" and "able to assist with complex and challenging cases".

Emre is a graduate of the University of Cambridge (MA, 1997), City, University of London (CPE, 2000) and BPP Law School (LPC, 2001). He speaks Turkish and English.
