The Financial Times (FT) has recognized Seyfarth Shaw LLP as one of the world's most innovative law firms for the ninth consecutive year in its annual FT Innovative Lawyers series.

In the full report released today, Seyfarth ranks No. 17 on the FT list of the most innovative laws firms in North America for 2019. The FT noted the firm's leadership across several categories:

  • Innovation in Legal Expertise - Litigation and Disputes: Seyfarth was shortlisted and earned "highly commended" honors for its victory for United Airlines in a biometric privacy case which demonstrated that there was no breach of employees' rights by using thumbprint identification data for clocking in and out.

Notably, the in-house legal team at United earned "highly commended" honors for the matter and was recognized as one of the most innovative in-house legal teams.

  • Innovation in Legal Expertise - Creating a New Standard: Seyfarth was shortlisted and earned "commended" honors for its guidance on the formation of Civica Rx, a non-profit generic drug company, set up by seven hospitals and three charities to address the ongoing shortage of generic drugs.
  • Innovation in the Business of Law - Diversity and Inclusion: Seyfarth earned "commended" honors for its establishment of the Comunidad Model, a network of women and minority-owned law firms which Seyfarth works on different litigation matters, increasing the work shared with these firms.

The annual FT Innovative Lawyers North America report was developed by the FT in partnership with RSG Consulting. Firms are selected for recognition following extensive research, direct client feedback and interviews with independent references.
