Global law firm Clyde & Co has today announced the appointment of three leading legal professional responsibility, malpractice and disciplinary defence lawyers in New York.

Janis Meyer, Anthony Davis and Rick Supple will join from Hinshaw & Culbertson and form part of Clyde & Co's global Law Firm Liability, Regulatory and Investigations Group. Rick is a trial defence lawyer who represents law firms and lawyers in malpractice, disciplinary and other ethics related litigation and investigations. He also has a substantial advisory practice, particularly with respect to litigation finance. For many years, Janis and Anthony have been trusted advisors to leading law firms in the US on legal ethics, risk management and all aspects of the law governing lawyers.

Rick Supple will join as Partner, while Anthony Davis and Janis Meyer will join as Of Counsel.

Peter Hirst, Senior Partner at Clyde & Co says: "We are well-known for our professional liability, regulatory and investigations work around the world and this team will add considerably to our ability to advise and defend law firms in the United States. Rick, Anthony and Janis are market-leading figures and top quality lawyers in their fields and we look forward to working with them in further developing our significant US practice."

Richard Harrison, partner and head of the Law Firm Liability, Regulatory and Investigations Group at Clyde & Co, says: "Our law firm clients increasingly need advisory and defence support around the world as they address the rapidly-evolving risk and regulatory landscape they face. As law firms have globalised, so too have their legal needs, which is why adding this well respected US team, whom we know well and have worked with for a number of years, is a significant move for us and is part of our strategy of expanding our global advisory and defence capabilities for law firms."

Janis, who for many years was General Counsel of Dewey & LeBoeuf and oversaw the firm's wind-down in 2012, and Anthony, who founded Hinshaw's New York office in 2003, are leading lawyers for counselling law firms on legal professional and ethics issues, law firm creation, merger and dissolution, risk management and loss control. Until earlier this year, Rick was Hinshaw's General Counsel and leader of its nationwide Professional Responsibility and Risk Management Practice Group.

Anthony Davis says: "We have worked with the team at Clyde & Co for many years and their market leading reputation in our field is very well established. We are delighted to be joining forces and making the most of the truly global reach that Clyde & Co provides, something that is increasingly important as law firms expand their operations across the world."

Janis Meyer adds: "Having been GCs ourselves, Rick and I have seen at first hand the shifting risk landscape and scrutiny that law firms are facing. We look forward to helping law firm general counsel to get to grips with these issues, working across borders in the global team at Clyde & Co."

This expansion in New York is the latest growth for Clyde & Co in the US, where it first launched in 2006, and follows the hiring of a 90-strong insurance and litigation team from Sedgwick LLP in December 2017, four partners from Shipman & Goodwin in Washington DC, as well as partners in Atlanta and Washington, DC this year.

The firm opened offices in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, DC in 2017 and now has nine offices, over 60 partners and more than 350 people nationally in offices including Miami, Atlanta, San Francisco, Orange County, New York City and New Jersey.

Carolena Gordon, Chair of Clyde & Co's North American Board says: "We have strong trial capabilities across the US, which this team will enhance while providing us with the ability to work with, advise and defend law firms across the country."

Clyde & Co's Law Firm Liability, Regulatory and Investigations Group assists many of the leading UK and US headquartered firms with their claims and regulatory exposures around the world. The Group comprises lawyers in the UK and Europe, the USA and Canada, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region.
