Global law firm Clyde & Co today announced the appointment of Cheryl Yakey as Senior Counsel in its global insurance practice.

Cheryl will be based in the firm's San Francisco office and brings with her 30 years of extensive insurance industry legal and regulatory compliance experience. Prior to joining Clyde & Co, Cheryl was the insurance regulatory practice group leader at another law firm, where her practice focused on representing insurance companies and insurtechs in transactional and regulatory matters. Previously, Cheryl served as in-house counsel in general counsel offices and regulatory compliance divisions at some of the world's largest insurers, including Kemper Corporation, Genworth Financial, American International Group, Munich Re America and CNA/Continental Insurance Company.

With the addition of Cheryl, who is a trusted advisor and recognized thought leader in the insurance industry, Clyde & Co continues to build its strength and broad offering in the US insurance transactional and regulatory practice, which is led by Vikram Sidhu, a Partner based in Clyde & Co's New York office, and includes numerous seasoned attorneys including Hilary Rowen in the San Francisco office. The US practice is part of a 100+ strong global insurance transactional and regulatory team made up of lawyers spread across the world.

Cheryl received an undergraduate degree from Hamilton College and a Juris Doctor Degree with distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law. She is admitted to practice law in California, Illinois and New Jersey.

Clyde & Co's has the world's largest global insurance practice by headcount which handles claims and disputes across every line of insurance and reinsurance business and otherwise provides a broad range of legal services to the insurance industry in addition to insurance transactional and regulatory work.

This expansion in San Francisco is the latest growth for Clyde & Co in the US, where it first launched in 2006, and follows the hiring of a 90-strong insurance and litigation team from Sedgwick LLP in December 2017, four partners from Shipman & Goodwin in Washington DC, and two partners from Hinshaw & Culbertson in January 2018. Earlier in the year Clyde & Co hired Stacey Farrell as a partner in Atlanta and Alan Joaquin as a partner in Washington, DC.

The firm opened offices in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, DC in 2017 and now has nine offices, over 60 partners and more than 350 people across the US in offices including Miami, Atlanta, San Francisco, Orange County, New York City and New Jersey.
