Veirano Advogados has recruited a partner to drive its fintech offer as Brazil's modern regulations, advanced financial technology and daring entrepreneurship sets the growing sector apart from the country's otherwise lacklustre economic situation.
Ivan Antonio Monteiro Marques, 37, joined Veirano on 17 June. He was previously an associate at TozziniFreire Advogados' pioneer fintech department.
With a strong background in accountancy and finance, Marques was general counsel and chief financial officer at a fintech company between 2016 and 2017. He has also worked for national and international banks, including Itaú Unibanco, Morgan Stanley and UBS.
Marques will head Veirano's fintech practice. He says the opportunity to lead the area and his new firm's prominence in venture capital deals encouraged him to join. "Fintechs are an intensive capital activity which requires a lot of investment from venture capital and private equity, so there is a lot of synergy here between our practices," he says.
