John E. Smith, co-head of Morrison & Foerster's National Security, Sanctions and Export Controls practice and former Director of the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control ("OFAC"), will be speaking at the Internal Conference on International Economic Sanctions: Risks and Best Practices in Milan, Italy on June 27, 2019. John will be the keynote speaker focusing his talk on United States secondary sanctions and the jurisdictional reach of OFAC.

During his talk, John will discuss multiple topics including providing updates on Russia sanctions, including likely legislative activity targeting oligarchs and energy projects such as Nord Stream 2, Iran sanctions, including the Blocking Statute, Instex, the end of oil import waivers, likelihood of increased evasion schemes, and growing US Government discussions of KYCC (Know Your Customer's Customer), China, including the Huawei action and compliance expectations for financial institutions and other global companies, and the escalating conflict between the US and China on trade and sanctions policies, and OFAC's Compliance Commitments and their Impacts on Enforcement.
