The Canadian Bar Association ("CBA") intervened in
B.C. Supreme Court proceedings challenging the constitutionality of
new legislation changing the regulatory framework governing legal
service providers. The court accepted the CBA's submissions on
the nature and significance of the independence of bar, and
recognized a new unwritten constitutional principle protecting
independence of the bar.
McCarthy Tétrault assisted the CBA with a team led by
Connor Bildfell that included Lindsay Frame (Litigation).
