After attending the Justice session in the House of Commons on 22nd April, we welcome the announcement that Her Honour Deborah Taylor will be chairing the public inquiry into the Nottingham Attacks of June 2023.

Our team recently met with the Chair to discuss the draft Terms of Reference, and we are satisfied that Wayne, Sharon and the people of Nottingham will get the answers they deserve, and that things will be put in place to prevent this type of tragedy happening again.

Greg Almond, Partner at Rothera Bray Solicitors states,

"As someone working closely with two of the survivors, Wayne Birkett and Sharon Miller, I'm encouraged by the appointment of such an experienced and highly respected judge. This inquiry represents more than just a legal process, it's a vital opportunity for Wayne, Sharon, and others affected to be heard. It marks an important step forward for the people of Nottingham.

"A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of visiting Number 10 Downing Street with Wayne and his partner, Tracey. We spoke directly with the Prime Minister about the devastating impact these attacks have had—not just physically, but emotionally and psychologically.

"The truth is that what Wayne and Sharon have gone through is unimaginable. No one should have to endure what they have. My hope is that this inquiry not only helps them in their search for justice and accountability but also supports their journey toward healing and closure.

I also hope it leads to meaningful change—so that no other individual, family, or community ever has to experience such a tragedy again."

In Parliament, Shabana Mahmood MP, Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice said,

"Mr Speaker, this inquiry must be thorough in its assessment of the facts and unsparing in its recommendations. That is the very least that we owe to those who have lost so much and fought so hard for this moment."
