Taft (formerly Sherman & Howard) Water and Natural Resources partner James Eklund was named to the ColoradoBiz 2025 Natural Resources Power List, recognizing him as among the most influential and respected practitioners in Natural Resources Law.

Eklund shared insights into his practice and his keys to success. He discussed the value of water in our economies, communities, and futures.

"Water is the state's second most valuable natural resource. The first is our people," said Eklund. "For me, a guiding principle has been making sure that whatever water policy or water law you're working with reflects the reality of what people need in order to run their businesses and live their lives." Eklund leads Taft's Water and Natural Resources practice area. He works with sovereign governments, multi-state authorities, state agencies, and private interests to deliver critical water infrastructure projects and to design policy regarding water law, natural resources, infrastructure, and environmental protection.

Effective Jan. 1, 2025, Sherman & Howard combined with Taft, creating a firm powered by more than 1,000 attorneys from Washington, D.C. to the Mountain West. The combination enables both firms to deepen their benches of attorneys and strengthen their service offerings.
