ENS’ IP practice has once again been ranked gold tier, and our practitioners have received 9 individual rankings, with our Head of IP, Gaelyn Scott, receiving a double gold ranking, in the WTR1000 2025 guide.

This is what the WTR1000 had to say about ENS:

“Benefiting from being a full-service firm but with the intricate and specialist knowledge of an IP boutique, ENS takes full pride in its pan-African presence and on-the-ground experience within the IP space, as well as its wholehearted dedication to bridging the gap between clients and their business objectives. Its architect and captain of the firm’s IP department, Gaelyn Scott, is the driving force behind the practice’s exponential growth in both size and influence across the market. A trailblazing figure of African intellectual property, Scott balances a strong command over brand protection and portfolio management with her litigation and dispute resolution specialisms. Head of prosecution, Ilse du Plessis, and executive Rowan Forster have become the dynamic duo for premier trademark expertise, seamlessly blending Forster’s technical acumen with du Plessis’ unmatched command of African trademark prosecution. Approaching 30 years of experience in intellectual property, Delene Bertasso serves as the firm’s star of IP enforcement, offering vigorous counsel on high-stakes contentious matters. Experienced executives, Manisha Bugwandeen-Doorasamy and Liézal Mostert contribute greatly to the firm and the South African IP landscape, adeptly navigating the most intricate challenges posed by industry experts. Impressive debutants, Fae Hassan and Gerard du Toit take the market by storm, championing versatility and intelligence in every part of their practices, which are sought after by clients across high-demand industries such as consumer goods, telecommunications and banking.”

The ENS IP practitioners received the following 9 rankings:

  • Gaelyn Scott
    • Ranked in Enforcement and Litigation (Gold ranking)
    • Ranked in Prosecution and strategy (Gold ranking)
  • Ranked in Enforcement and Litigation (Bronze ranking)

We are proud to once again be recognised as a top tier trade mark team, particularly given that the IP practice at ENS was started just under 16 years ago. Our IP practice is also the third largest filer of trade mark applications in South Africa. We are competing very favourably with firms that have been in existence for 100+ years.

Thank you to our valued clients for their continued loyalty and whose valuable feedback has made this accomplishment possible. We would also like to acknowledge and thank our team of support staff who make us shine and without whom these rankings would not be possible.

“A world-class IP team with a real African footprint, providing business savvy expertise in a cost-effective manner”
