Since its inception in 1989, this unique event has brought together patent attorneys and related professionals from across the globe for a spirited competition steeped in fellowship and goodwill.
Known for its motto, "Sailing, Friendship and Fun!", the Patent Cup is no ordinary regatta. Each year, it provides a platform for participants to represent their countries, share professional insights, and foster international connections – all against the picturesque backdrop of some of the world's most iconic waterways. This year seven international boats competed on the harbour for the Patent Cup trophy.
With past events taking place in Europe, North America, South America, Africa, and now Australia, the competition continues to embody a truly global spirit.
Engineering and technology Principal, Peter Treloar, organised the event and was a special guest on the French Boat to lend his hand and help navigate the course.
"It was great to organise another Sydney event at the CYCA, after 20 years since the last Sydney event, and to show off Sydney Harbour to our foreign visitors over 4 days of racing. The harbour and weather were spectacular!" Peter said.

From the spectacular sails around Sydney's famed harbor to the lively networking events, the 2024 Patent Cup captured the essence of unity and collaboration among the patent community.
Peter will be looking forward to joining the Australia team in Germany next year.
