Chicago, Ill. (September 27, 2024) – Chicago Partner Mary A. Smigielski has been appointed chair of the Chicago Bar Association's (CBA) Labor & Employment Law Committee for the 2024-2025 term. In this role, Ms. Smigielski will work with members of the committee to offer educational, networking, and other opportunities designed to foster an awareness and understanding of important labor and employment issues across various industries.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to serve this important Chicago institution with my Vice Chair, Michael Halpin of Johnson & Bell. We are looking forward to an exciting bar year with some great programming," commented Ms. Smigielski.

The CBA, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, is one of the oldest and largest municipal bar associations in the country. Founded in 1874, its members are lawyers, judges, and law students who practice or study primarily in Cook County. The longstanding objectives of the CBA include maintaining the honor and dignity of the law profession, promoting the general welfare of the profession's members, and increasing the usefulness of the legal profession in promoting the administration of justice and public good.

Ms. Smigielski runs the Labor & Employment practice in Chicago, is Regional Co-chair of the firm's Midwest Labor & Employment team and the Co-chair of Lewis Brisbois' Illinois Biometric Information Privacy (BIPA) Practice, the first in the nation. Her practice involves the defense of class/collective actions and single-plaintiff employment litigation, administrative charges, nationwide employment counseling, training, and sensitive workplace investigations, including at the C-Suite level. On the BIPA front, Ms. Smigielski continues to be on the cutting edge of BIPA litigation, frequently providing commentary to legal news outlets on the topic. She co-hosts Lewis Brisbois' BIPA Radar podcast.

Please join us in congratulating Ms. Smigielski on her appointment.
