National law firm Wilson Elser today announced the recipient of the 2024–2025 Thomas W. Wilson Sr. Scholarship, named for the firm’s Chairman Emeritus, a founding member of the firm.

New York – May 13, 2024 – National law firm Wilson Elser today announced the recipient of the 2024–2025 Thomas W. Wilson Sr. Scholarship, named for the firm's Chairman Emeritus, a founding member of the firm.

The recipient is Sophia Dessi, daughter of White Plains, NY, office Of Counsel Antonella Dessi.

The scholarship consists of $10,000 per year for up to four years or graduation, whichever occurs first, at an accredited college or university.

"We are pleased to continue the firm's scholarship in honor of Thomas W. Wilson Sr. for the 2024–2025 year," said Dan McMahon, the firm's chair. "An outstanding student and active in her school and larger community, Sophia pursues the highest academic excellence while using her strengths to better the world around her. I congratulate Antonella and Sophia and their family."

At Horace Greeley High School, Sophia is captain of Quaker Notes, an all-female a cappella singing group; president of the Epidermolysis Bullosa Awareness Club, which supports victims of the rare disease; president of the Chappaqua Unplugged Anti–Social Media Initiative; and a peer leader with Horace Greeley High School Peer Leadership.

Sophia donates her time to the Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps where she assists EMTs and paramedics on ambulance calls by taking time-sensitive notes, preparing stretchers, operating the oxygen stream and dispensing crucial instruments stored in the ambulance. Sophia also volunteers with Bake Back America, which teaches low-income students empowerment, inclusion and working together to give back.

Sophia is a National Merit Scholarship Commended Student and an AP Scholar with Honors, who maintains a 4.00 GPA in all her classes, including six honors classes and eight advanced placement courses. She plans to attend Georgetown University in the fall.

In 2010, the firm's partnership established the Thomas W. Wilson Sr. Scholarship Program to support the college education of selected award recipients who are children of current, full-time Wilson Elser employees.
