With an objective of increasing India's Ease of Doing Business Ranking, bolstering investor confidence and labour compliances, the Government has attempted to consolidate and simplify four central labour legislations viz. The Payment of Wages Act, 1936, the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, the Payment of Bonus Act, 1965 and the Equal Remuneration Act, 1976.  The Code has been passed by the Lok Sabha on July 30, 2019 and the Rajya Sabha on August 02, 2019. Further, the Code has received the Presidential assent on August 8, 2019 and has been published for general information in the Official Gazette. The Code shall come into force on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette appoint and different dates may be appointed for different provisions under the Code.
