The Commission and the International Securities Consultancy (ISC), specialists in the setting up of stock exchanges, recently presented to representatives of the local finance industry proposals for the possible development of The Channel Islands Stock Exchange, based in St Peter Port.

The ISC feasibility study was completed with the supported of the Stock Exchange Task Force, a group formed by the Commission with members from prominent local financial services firms each of whom expressed keen interest. The study indicates that a stock exchange would enhance Guernsey's international profile and prestige.

Peter Crook, Director General, said: "An exchange will also widen the financial sector and increase its competitiveness as a 'one-stop-shop' producing cost savings for users. There is much work ahead but the Commission is heartened by strong local industry support for this initiative."
