After the first chapter of our Infrastructure study on the Brazilian transport sector dedicated to airports, today we are pleased to present you the port segment under the following: (i) applicable legal rules, (ii) main players involved and (iii) existing or ongoing projects. By portraying these three perspectives, we intend to inform and substantiate where investments are needed the most and how investors could be better rewarded by their initiatives.

Modernizing the port infrastructure is of primary importance in Brazil, a country with 8,500 km of coastline, accounting for more than 90% of the total exports. The economic interests linked to this sector are huge: ports are crucial for the creation of jobs and fostering investments. The port industry has significant direct, indirect and induced effects in the economy, without mentioning that there is a wide range of industrial activities located in ports. The expected worldwide growth of goods' handling in the next decades represents both a challenge and an opportunity in Brazil as well.
