From 1 July 2017, fines under Queensland State legislation and local laws will increase by approximately 3.5%.
The Penalties and Sentences (Penalty Unit Value) Amendment Regulation 2017 provides for an increase in the value of a penalty unit from $121.90 to $126.15 from 1 July.
This will mean increased penalties and fines for offences under local laws for most local governments except for Aurukun Shire Council, Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire Council, Hope Vale Aboriginal Shire Council, Napranum Aboriginal Shire Council, Pormpuraaw Aboriginal Shire Council, Torres Shire Council, Torres Strait Island Regional Council, Woorabinda Aboriginal Shire Council, Wujal Wujal Aboriginal Shire Council and Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire Council, which retain a penalty unit value of $75.
