Partner Michael Lundberg has been appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia. Mr. Lundberg, a member of the Firm's Global Disputes Practice residing in the Perth Office, has accepted the appointment and will join the bench on November 28, 2022.

Mr. Lundberg will be the first indigenous judge on the state's Supreme Court; he follows his trailblazing mother, Dr. Sue Gordon AM, a Yamatji woman, who was Western Australia's first indigenous magistrate and served for 20 years on the Children's Court bench.

"This is an incredible honor both professionally and personally for Mike, and is a reflection of his outstanding legal acumen and personal integrity," said Adam Salter, Partner-in-Charge of the Perth Office.

Mr. Lundberg has practiced as a litigator since 1994, predominantly in Western Australia, but his practice has extended throughout Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. He has typically acted for clients in high-value disputes associated with joint ventures, business sale agreements, royalty arrangements, construction and engineering projects, and regulatory investigations, predominantly in the energy and resources sector.

"The entire Firm congratulates Mike on this historic appointment," said Greg Shumaker, Global Disputes Practice Leader. "We know that as a jurist he will uphold the same commitment to the rule of law in Western Australia as he has as a valued partner at Jones Day. We will miss him."

Mr. Lundberg is a member of the University Council of Curtin University, and served early in his career as an Assistant Crown Counsel with the Crown Solicitor's Office of Western Australia from 1994 – 2000.
