Courtney A. Carrell, a partner in Jones Day's Health Care & Life Sciences Practice, was named a lawyer "On the Rise" by Texas Lawyer. The accolade, one of the publication's Professional Excellence Awards, recognizes a group of lawyers under 40 for their strong leadership qualities and for wielding influence in their practice areas in Texas and beyond.

Based in the Firm's Dallas Office, Ms. Carrell advises health care clients in regulatory, compliance, and litigation matters. As one of only a few lawyers in the United States with a sophisticated legal practice concerning organ transplant medicine, Ms. Carrell has built a national reputation. She has represented more than twenty academic medical centers in handling regulatory inquiries, litigating changes to national organ policies, and advising on legal, political, and social developments that affect the operation of transplant programs. In addition, Ms. Carrell counsels health care providers on compliance with the Stark Law, False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, reimbursement regulations, and privacy laws.  She also helps clients implement solutions to challenges stemming from COVID-19, including developing testing and vaccination programs as well as launching cross-border digital health platforms.

Ms. Carrell maintains an active pro bono practice and is especially passionate about her volunteer work as an advocate for patients with rare diseases. She has been a research participant in ten clinical trials and has served on patient advisory committees regarding research proposals investigating neuromuscular diseases.
