CHICAGO, December 1, 2021 — Arnold & Porter is pleased to announce that Michael Barnicle has joined the firm's Government Contracts practice as a partner, resident in Chicago.

Craig Holman, Chair of Arnold & Porter's Government Contracts and National Security practices, said: "Mike is a well-regarded government contracts attorney both within and outside of the federal government due to his ability to resolve difficult government contracting issues throughout the US and internationally. Mike's experience as a former attorney in the US Army Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps combined with the breadth of his significant private practice experience enables him to provide valuable solutions to our government contractor clients that is unique in any market."

Mr. Barnicle provides a full range of litigation, compliance, and corporate transactional services across government contracting and international trade, including national security and cybersecurity matters. He represents federal government contractors in connection with aerospace, national defense, national security, homeland security, legislative affairs, foreign military sales, export controls and international trade matters.

In joining the firm, Mr. Barnicle said: "Arnold & Porter's premier Government Contracts practice includes a deep bench of attorneys with unlimited skill sets. Providing excellent client service and building close client working relationships are my priority. It is always exciting when you can offer clients new and exciting opportunities, especially those that strengthen your clients' trust and confidence in you to handle the tough issues now and in the future. I look forward to contributing to this dynamic group and its strategic growth strategy in Chicago and nationally."

Mr. Barnicle's previous JAG service included a combat tour in Iraq as a strategic legal advisor to military and other government officials. In 2007, he co-founded the John Marshall Law School Veterans Legal Support Center & Clinic in Chicago. Mr. Barnicle earned his JD from the John Marshall Law School and received his BA, with distinction, from the University of Kansas.

Mr. Barnicle's arrival, along with James Kim, who also joined the firm's Government Contracts practice as a partner resident in Washington, DC, demonstrates the strategic growth of Arnold & Porter's Government Contracts Practice. Their arrivals build on the strength of Arnold & Porter's top-ranked Government Contracts practice, advising clients across a vast array of industries.

Mr. Barnicle's arrival also strengthens and complements the Chicago office's federal regulatory growth that includes the recent additions of partners Andre Geverola, former Director of Criminal Litigation in the Department of Justice (DOJ) Antitrust Division, who joined the firm's Antitrust/Competition practice group; Valarie Hays, a former federal prosecutor who joined the firm's White Collar Defense & Investigations practice; and partner Chris Anderson, a healthcare transactional and regulatory lawyer. The firm also recently added four patent litigators to the Chicago office, bolstering the firm's patent litigation practice. These arrivals demonstrate the firm's commitment to growing its Chicago presence and expanding in a significant market.
