Las Vegas Partner  Keith Weaver and Associate  Alissa Bestick secured a jury verdict on behalf of an emergency department physician who allegedly failed to diagnose a small bowel perforation following the plaintiff's cholecystectomy. The plaintiff first visited the emergency room two days after her procedure because she was experiencing pain. She was ultimately sent home after undergoing a series of tests. Three days later, the plaintiff returned to the emergency department once again, this time in borderline septic shock with a small bowel perforation, which led to subsequent surgeries, an extended hospital stay, and rehabilitation.

The plaintiff sued the hospital and our physician client. The hospital settled early in the litigation, the plaintiff pursued her professional negligence claim against our client, and the case went to trial. Prior to the start of trial, the plaintiff demanded six-figures in damages. At closing, she demanded seven figures. The jury, however, returned a verdict in favor of our client.
