The global law firm Jones Day has announced the arrival of four lawyers in its Global Disputes Practice, based in the Firm's Perth Office. The group of new arrivals includes:

  • Debra Osborn, of counsel
  • Pierce McMahon, associate
  • Reece McMahon, associate
  • Adam Rompotis, associate

The team joins following the arrival of Michael Lundberg in May as a partner in Jones Day's Global Disputes Practice, also based in Perth.

"We have a robust practice of more than 200 lawyers worldwide who help clients successfully resolve high-value business disputes wherever they arise around the globe through litigation, arbitration, or some combination of the two," said Greg Shumaker, Practice Leader of Jones Day's Global Disputes Practice. "Debra and her colleagues are especially accomplished practitioners in international arbitration, which is an area where our clients are experiencing greater need for experienced legal counsel. This new team of lawyers bolsters even further our significant disputes capabilities in Australia and the Asia Pacific region, and no other global firm can match our commitment to the disputes needs of our clients in this region. We are very pleased to welcome these fine lawyers to Jones Day."

Ms. Osborn's practice includes all forms of dispute resolution covering superior court litigation, domestic and international commercial arbitration, expert determination, adjudication, and mediation. She works on complex disputes involving major projects and infrastructure and across sectors that include energy and resources, building and construction, real property, agribusiness, trade practices and competition, professional negligence, intellectual property, state taxes, land access, and native title. Ms. Osborn works regularly with Australia's pre-eminent senior counsel and has appeared in the High Court of Australia, the Federal Court of Australia, the Supreme Court of Western Australia, and the State Administrative Tribunal, as well as ICC, SIAC, and UNCITRAL international commercial arbitrations.

Pierce McMahon has acted for clients in a broad range of areas including large and complex disputes arising in the energy and resources sector, contentious corporate matters, and disputes in the building and construction industry.

Reece McMahon, Pierce's brother, has experience in a range of commercial litigation matters in the Supreme Court of Western Australia and in the Federal Court of Australia. He also has experience in international arbitrations under the ICC and UNCITRAL Rules, and in adjudication applications under state security of payment legislation, including the WA CCA and NT SOPA.

Adam Rompotis focuses on complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution, with particular experience in energy and resources, corporate, mergers and acquisitions, and banking and finance disputes. Adam has appeared in the Supreme Court of Western Australia, the Federal Court and the Full Federal Court of Australia, as well as having carriage of matters in the WA Court of Appeal, and tribunals including the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and the Australian Takeovers Panel. He was formerly an associate to a Justice of the High Court of Australia.

"This team of talented lawyers adds tremendous depth to our disputes team in Perth for representing both local and international clients in some of the most important commercial disputes in Australia and the Asia Pacific region," said Adam Salter, Partner-in-Charge of the Firm's Perth Office. "The arrival of these four individuals will help us provide even better service to clients and I am delighted to welcome them to the Perth Office of Jones Day."

"Jones Day launched its presence in Australia in 2006 and our Global Disputes Practice has been a key contributor to our growth in the region over the past 15 years," said Chris Ahern, Partner-in-Charge for Jones Day's Australia/Japan Region. "We are pleased to welcome this team of attorneys to the Perth Office and look forward to their contributions to our work here in serving our clients' needs for high-stakes litigation and arbitration counsel."

Jones Day's Global Disputes Practice has generated significant industry attention in recent months. The Firm's International Arbitration team received the elite "Band 1" ranking in the 2021 edition of Chambers USA, which praised the group as a "well-established team with expertise in commercial and investment arbitration that offers notable strength in handling disputes arising from the construction, energy and mining sectors." Jones Day was also recognized as one of the world's leading firms for international arbitration in the 2020 edition of the Global Arbitration Review 30, the fifth consecutive year in which the Firm was included in the prestigious list. Earlier this year, leading arbitration lawyers Michelle Bradfield and Amy Kläsener joined the practice as partners in London and Frankfurt, respectively, and Mr. Lundberg was recently identified as one of the pre-eminent commercial litigators in Western Australia in Doyle's Guide 2021.
