Global law firm Clyde & Co has today announced the promotion of 13 equity partners across its international network. The promotions are effective from 1 May 2020.

Across the firm's global sector and practice groups, Insurance sees the largest intake of new partners (6), with Aviation, Employment, Marine, Projects & Construction, Commercial Litigation, Insolvency and International Arbitration teams all growing with one promotion each. Over half (7) of the new promotions are women.

Six of the new partners are based outside the UK, further demonstrating the firm's global presence, with over 50 offices and associated offices across six continents. Three of the promotions are in North America, two in continental Europe and one in Asia Pacific (APAC).

In the UK, the promotions are spread across the firm's London, Manchester and Guildford offices. Three of the promotions – Karen Elliott, Niya Phiri and Stuart Maleno – are in its Insurance practice. Outside insurance, Duncan Lockhart is promoted in the firm's Insolvency team, Ian Woods in its Marine team, and Lucy Frith and Milena Szuniewicz-Wenzel strengthen its global Projects & Construction and International Arbitration teams, respectively.

Peter Hirst, Clyde & Co's Senior Partner, says: "We are proud to be able to promote such a talented and diverse cohort of new partners this year. Each of the partners has made significant contributions to the firm during their careers here and they all demonstrate the collaborative mind-set and focus on market-leading levels of client service that we expect from our partners across the world.

"Achieving much greater diversity in all respects across our firm is a key priority for us so it is particularly pleasing to see such a high proportion of women in this year's cohort.

"With all businesses facing unprecedented disruption in the immediate term as a result of COVID-19, it's crucial that we all stay focused on the long term health of the firm. Training, nurturing and promoting our people is fundamentally important for us and, now more than ever, our annual partner promotions round is a good chance to celebrate the talent we have at our disposal as we help our clients navigate these uncertain times."

Over the last 12 months, Clyde & Co has made 19 lateral partner level hires, including six in the UK, nine in APAC, one in the US and three in the Middle East and Africa (MEA).

In June 2019, Clyde & Co named Peter Hirst as new Senior Partner and subsequently announced the appointment of Matthew Kelsall as Chief Executive Officer in the Autumn.

In December 2019 it announced the appointments of Dame Inga Beale and Stephen Chipman as independent board members (the equivalent of non-executive directors) to its Management Board – the first time such a position has been created at the firm and with the aim of ensuring industry-leading governance and decision-making structures to reflect the size, global nature and ambitions of the firm.

During the past year the firm also launched an office in Dublin and an association with Grasty Quintana Majlis in Santiago, giving it an on the ground presence in Chile for the first time.
