The partners of Smart & Biggar/Fetherstonhaugh are pleased to announce that Jean-Sebastien Dupont, Daniel Davies and Urszula Wojtyra have joined the partnership.

Jean-Sebastien Dupont, based in Smart & Biggar's Montreal office, focuses on intellectual property litigation in the areas of trademarks, patents and copyright. He is involved in different aspects of litigation before the Quebec Superior Court and the Federal Court, including witness preparation for examination, cross-examinations, finding and working with technical and financial experts, preparing and arguing various motions, preparing evidence and submissions for trial and working with foreign associates in the context of multi-jurisdictional cases in countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom. He was awarded a First Class grade from the University of Cambridge for his Master of Law thesis, which focussed on the notion of trademark use and addressed the issue of invisible use of trademarks in meta tags and keyword advertising, as well as the subliminal use of trademarks in new marketing techniques. Jean-Sébastien's technical background is in computer science.

Daniel Davies, based in Smart & Biggar's Ottawa office, focuses on litigation in the fields of patents, trademarks and copyrights. He regularly represents clients in court proceedings, including before the Federal Court of Canada, and advises clients on the enforcement of their Canadian intellectual property rights. He also represents clients in trademark oppositions, trademark expungement proceedings and domain name disputes. Daniel works with clients in a wide variety of fields, including high-tech companies, Internet companies, manufacturers, retail chains, pharmaceutical companies and the oil and gas industry. His strong background in electrical engineering and experience in computer programming are particular assets to clients. 

Urszula Wojtyra, based in Smart & Biggar's Toronto office, focuses in the field of life sciences (pharmaceuticals, biologics, medical devices, natural health products). She regularly represents innovative pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies in complex patent litigation, including patent infringement actions and proceedings under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations. Urszula has represented clients before both the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal of Canada. Her extensive experience and skills in strategic litigation management makes Urszula a valued and key member of litigation teams. Urszula also advises clients on regulatory due diligence, regulatory compliance issues (under the Food and Drugs Act and associated regulations) and has broad expertise in regulatory matters in Canada, including related to biologics. Prior to attending law school, Urszula obtained her Master of Science in biochemistry from the University of Toronto. Her technical expertise in biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology, immunology, genetics, and medicine further empowers Urszula to successfully advise and represent her clients.
