Lewis Silkin has today announced the first Digital, Commerce and Creative partner in its Manchester team.
Laura Harper joins from Irwin Mitchell, where she was a partner and head of the Media & Entertainment team. Recognised as a 'leading individual' by the Legal 500, Laura has a particular focus on commercial IP, digital business, and media innovation, as well as considerable experience acting for video games studios, television production companies, communications agencies, fashion brands and clients across the creative industries and innovation sectors. Her appointment augments Lewis Silkin's growing gaming practice, after Nick Allan joined as Head of Interactive Entertainment in 2021.
Laura is a creative industries legal specialist, bringing a wealth of experience in complex copyright, trademark, patent, and design issues, notably including TV production and IP and patent licensing to bear for clients. She will work closely with Sally Hulston, who joined the firm late last year, to build and expand the firm's offering in the North of England.
The expansion of the Manchester office also comes shortly after partner James Keogh joined to establish a new hub for Lewis Silkin in Leeds, further expanding the firm's broad footprint across the UK.
Laura Harper, Partner at Lewis Silkin, commented:
"As a firm, Lewis Silkin has an unparalleled focus on creativity and innovation as it continues a trajectory of growth and expansion. There is enormous potential to establish a leading practice for the thriving creative and digital industries in the North West and to support this large and growing sector of the regional economy which forms a key element of the Northern Powerhouse. It is an exciting journey to be a part of, and I look forward to contributing to the firm's continued success."
Jo Farmer, Joint Managing Partner at Lewis Silkin, added:
"Laura brings a great deal to our growing practice in the media and entertainment sector and will help us to enhance our offering in this space. Through her impeccable skillset and experience, as well as local connections and involvement in industry bodies and initiatives, she will play an important role in helping to drive the firm's growth as our Manchester offering continues to evolve."
