Gowling WLG has been named 'National Law Firm of the Year' at the Birmingham Law Society 2023 Legal Awards.
The firm claims the Society's premier award for its role as the Official Legal Advisers to and sponsors of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games ("B2022"), as well as for wider legal and business services work in the region over the last 12 months.
Recognising Gowling WLG talent at all levels, the award is given in acknowledgment of the firm's demonstrable progress in the national legal market over the last year, for its commitment to driving growth and development for clients and the Midlands legal community, and for delivering on CSR and community commitments in support of the wider region.
Partner and General Counsel Michael Luckman, said: "We're immensely proud to have been named National Law Firm of the Year by the Birmingham Law Society, and of the part our people have played in delivering the biggest sporting event the West Midlands has ever hosted. They are truly deserving of this award in recognition of their steadfast commitment and dedication to delivering continued success and sustained growth for our clients and communities, regionally and nationally. Their efforts have helped build a lasting legacy which ensures that 2022 is a year to remember – for Gowling WLG and for the City of Birmingham."
Gowling WLG lawyers were also celebrating further success on the night, as legal secondees to the Organising Committee for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games were among the team that claimed the 'In-House Team of the Year' award.
Partner Ruth Griffin was also recognised for an outstanding year, being among the shortlist for the Partner of the Year category – one of only five lawyers to make the list in 2022. She was named in recognition of her leadership and delivery of the firm's B2022 activity at all levels, her comprehensive sector work, and for her contribution to Birmingham and the surrounding area.
