Sheppard Mullin's Energy, Infrastructure and Project Finance team was recognized for its work on the Edwards Sanborn solar and storage project, which was awarded Americas Renewables 2022 Deal of the Year by Project Finance International ("PFI"). Sheppard Mullin acted as local energy regulatory counsel to Terra-Gen, LLC in the transaction.

According to PFI, "Terra-Gen's nearly $1 billion green loan financing for a solar and storage project in California was the top power project financing this year for the Americas based on its massive size and a mix of elements that epitomize the evolution of the US power markets over the last few years."

The second phase of the Edwards Sanborn solar storage facility in Kern County, California, is the largest single solar and battery energy storage project to be financed to-date. It comprises 410MW of solar and 1.7GWh of battery storage and is projected to be fully operational by Q3 2023. In addition, it is expected to play a critical role in balancing California's power grid with substantial renewable sources to provide system stability and meet the state's decarbonization goals.

Sheppard Mullin partner Thomas Solomon served as local regulatory counsel to Terra-Gen, LLC.
