Arnold & Porter's pro bono work in the reproductive rights space was featured in The American Lawyer's recent article, "Dobbs Decision Prompts Massive Spike in Reproductive Rights Pro Bono Work." The article discusses the ways the legal community is working to protect reproductive rights following the US Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization.

Partner and chair of the firm's pro bono committee Dan Cantor told The American Lawyer that after the Supreme Court's decision, "a 'large number' of lawyers came to him desiring to increase their participation in the pro bono area and specifically to aid in the area of reproductive life."

Cantor said the firm's "long-standing relationships and core knowledge in the area helped Arnold & Porter rise to meet the new set of risk and uncertainty that came from Dobbs."

The firm's experience and knowledge allowed them to "quickly engage on the new landscape that we all find ourselves in post-Dobbs," Cantor said.

"Demand increased substantially immediately, and a whole host of new people from around the firm and in a myriad of practice groups are now getting involved. We were able to combine folks with long-standing experience in the issues with new folks who are bringing new energy and expertise as well," he said.

Members of the firm are also finding other ways to help those seeking legal assistance related to reproductive rights. Earlier this year, Arnold & Porter partner and co-head of the firm's Capital Markets practice, Teresa Johnson co-founded the Legal Alliance for Reproductive Rights, a coalition formed by the Bar Association of San Francisco, the San Francisco City Attorney and nearly 70 law firms, which connects women and pregnant people, providers and supporters with pro bono legal support after the fall of Roe v. Wade.
