Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker has signed into law a bill that will allow for sports betting to occur in Massachusetts through a combination of brick-and-mortar facilities and online services. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission, which will issue the sports betting licenses, has provided some initial indications regarding the timeline and process for licensure including thoughts on the application and has convened a series of roundtables to solicit comments/ideas from industry and other stakeholders. The Commission has indicated that it intends to be deliberate with its approach, consistent with its objectives for consumer protection and gaming integrity.

Foley Hoag attorneys Jesse Alderman, Kevin Conroy and Jeremy Meisinger discussed the key aspects of the Sports Betting Law and the Gaming Commission's plan for issuing sports betting licenses.
